How much power can a Muncie 4 speed handle
If you are just grudge racing and head up for fun...a 4 speed might be fun. I prefer it for the street. My daily is a 6 speed. I believe the m22 can take about 500 foot lbs....but if you get it hook around 1.6 to 1.5 60 foot times....its going to break. I had a M21 with about 450 foot lbs and it held up ok...but never 60 foot better than 1.7.

The M21 and the M22 are both "close ratios", with the same ratios. The main difference is the helical angle differences with the gear teeth... M21 had a greater angle, which was quieter. The M22 was "closer" to straight-cut, so it was noisier ( not saying it was close to straight-cut, just closer than the M21).

The M21 is a standard Muncie 4 speed. They both have the same ratios beginning with a 2.20 1st. The M20 is the "wide ratio" version which begins with a 2.52 1st gear. I know that the M20 came in cars with a standard rear axle ration ( 3.31 in my '67 ), while the M21 came in higher (numerical ) rear axle ratios.
